For this assignment, you will interview an adolescent individual who is between the ages of thirteen and
eighteen and who is of high school status. After the interview, you will analyze the interviewee’s answers
using theories and concepts that we covered in this class. It is up to you however you want to record the
interview—you can use an audio recorder or take detailed notes.
The only resource that you will be using to analyze the answers is the required textbook for this class.
Any other resources will not be acceptable. Your paper must be submitted using the template provided on
Canvas and should not exceed 2 pages.
Papers must be submitted in Times New Roman font, single spaced, and citation must be in APA format.
Cover page is not required.
The paper must include the below sections in the same order. The template includes an example of a
question, answer, and analysis. Be sure to review the sample before you start working on this assignment.
Background: include background information about the person you are interviewing (anonymous name,
age, grade level, and gender).
Interview: Questions for the adolescent (Choose at least one question from each category)
1. Identity: How would you identify yourself? What labels would you use to explain your identity or
who you are as a person? What are some of your likes and dislikes?
What are some of your strengths and areas of growth? who’s your role model? Who influenced
you as a person? Who do you look up to and why?
2. Friendship: How many friends do you have? Do you have more/less friends now comparing to
middle/elementary school? Is your friend group mostly girls or boys? How did you become
friends? What common things do you share with your friends?
3. Free time/activities: What do you like to do outside of school? How often do you hang out with
friends? Do you feel that you have free time? Are you involved in sports?
4. Social media: Are you on social media, if yes, which ones? How much time do you spend on
social media a day? For what purposes do you use social media? What are some pros and cons of
social media?
5. Family/Relationships: How would you describe your relationship with your
parents/stepparents/guardians, siblings/step siblings (if you have any)? If you have a problem,
who would you approach?
Analysis (Connection to theories/concepts)
In this section you will read the answers of the interviewee and connect them to theories/concepts from the required textbook. Refer to the example provided in the template.
Reflection on the assignment
Reflect on this assignment by answering the following questions:
How did this assignment change/add to your understanding/knowledge on the adolescence stage
of development? In other words, how has learning about this adolescent changed your
understanding of child development and the factors that influence development?
