Research Project #2
Watch the Research Project #2 Lecture Recording before proceeding.
Using FNU’s ProQuest, obtain two scholarly sources (no more than two are to be used) to support one of the following thesis statements:
THESIS OPTION 1: Personal autonomy is a constitutionally protected right extending to the sale and purchase of one’s organs and the right to make end-of-life decisions.
OR
THESIS OPTION 2: Personal autonomy is not a constitutionally protected right allowing for the sale and purchase of one’s organs or the right to make end-of-life decisions.
Follow these guidelines:
Choose one thesis statement defending both claims (1) the right to sell or purchase human organs and (2) the right to make end-of-life decisions (euthanasia)
The scope of this essay is limited to U.S. citizens who are adults
Do not support either thesis on the black market sale of organs, human trafficking, the susceptibility of under-developed countries, the vulnerability of children, etc.
All arguments must be supported by data based on the United States (its economy, laws, healthcare system, and the socioeconomic status of its citizens)
Do not rely on international factors, immigration, etc.
Two scholarly sources are required, one for human organs and another for euthanasia
Instructions
Draft a four-paragraph essay that meets the “Grading Criteria” (below)
The essay must follow the “Response Template” provided in the “Grading Criteria”
Failing to follow the “Response Template” may require an oral examination to confirm originality
Only two scholarly sources obtained from FNU’s ProQuest are to be used (no more, no less)
Both sources must be downloaded, saved, and uploaded/attached
Grading Criteria (rubric)
Refer to the Grading Criteria before you begin (Instructions), while you are drafting (Expectations), and then again as part of the proofreading/editing process (Rubric/Point Calculations). Do NOT draft a response based on impulse or creativity. Instead, follow the very detailed instructions provided in the Grading Criteria, including the “Response Template.”
Instructional Guidance & Support
Rely on the Student Success Materials for help with research, citations, legal analysis / logical writing, and grammar skills.
Submission Guidelines
Submit a rough draft through the Self-Assessment Originality Review, make the necessary revisions, proofread, save, and then upload/attach the final draft as a DOC or PDF file.
Download and save both sources as PDF files. Attach/upload both of them when submitting the final draft.
If you upload/attach the incorrect file or experience technical issues, use the second attempt, which will be the one that is graded. No more than two attempts will be provided. Therefore, do not use the second attempt until you are 100% certain that everything is correct and fully functional.
The second attempt is only for submission issues. It is not to be used for resubmitting a revised version after it has been graded. Feedback provided is intended to help students improve on future assignments, not for grade improvement on work that has been submitted and graded.
