Introduction and Alignment There are bumper stickers that read, “The Bible says It. I believe It. And that settles It.” While this statement contains truth, it’s often not that easy to just understand the Bible and know how to read and apply it correctly. It takes a careful method of study to read and interpret the Bible. It’s not as easy as three sentences on the back of your car. There is an entire discipline of study dedicated to reading, understanding, interpreting, and applying the Bible. This method is especially useful and important when looking at the Old Testament because it is older and often makes sense to Christians when looking through the lens of Jesus. It’s important for students to at least begin the process of reading and interpreting scripture. The process of reading and interpreting the Bible is called hermeneutics. The study of a particular scripture and determining its meaning is called exegesis. In this project, students will be introduced to several methods used in this process and use them as they read, understand, interpret and attempt to apply what they have learned to their context. Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to: Describe the process of reading, understanding, interpreting, and applying the Bible. Resources 1.) Read: Chapter 2 in your textbook.
