Please respond to my two classmates forum discussion with at least 100 words each.
1. I choose this as my topic because it can never be stressed enough how vital this is. Not only the main keywords but also the synonyms associated with them. Just like certain terms have colloquial meanings is this same concept with keywords. If I were to mention cartel or corona usually there is a country that comes to mind. Versus bullet trains and sushi. That needs to be the same idea when we choose our keywords for advertising. It should be in the positive. Also the terms associated with our keywords is what I am mainly writing about now. If I have a product on shoes, I also need to explain the terrain it is fit for. The weather it is suitable with. Also the reputation of the brand itself. Even the shipping company can play a role if you decide to go the logistics route. Because who would want to pay for something if the deliverer isn’t reliable or have bad service. Quality or durable are good references related to our advertising. Making sure to involve some keywords into your link, heading and content are important on the webpage. Not having too much or too little is key. The information we provide needs to match our keywords whether it be navigational or transactional. Having the key synonyms not antonyms can trigger a total different outcome when our advertisement is shown. So I wanted to focus on the web around the keywords itself since it can be as important the main product.
2. For today’s post I chose behavioral targeting. Behavioral targeting is becoming more and more prevalent as technology progresses and some might event consider it somewhat invasive. Everyone nowadays believes they are being spied on in some sort of way because even if you just have a short conversation with a close acquaintance about a random subject, you will so receive advertisements for products related to that subject. Additionally, analyzing peoples behaviors can lead marketers and advertisers to logical conclusions based on a persons activities. Someone who uses an app to analyze their fitness levels may be interested in purchasing fitness related gear; so now you can target that individual with advertisements for fitness gear. Looking deeper that person may do a lot of running so advertisers can logically conclude that no only are they likely to purchase fitness gear, they are likely to be in the market for running shoes, running shorts, fitness watches, running apps, running groups on social media etc. Behavioral targeting has been used by police and the government for decades under a different name, namely “profiling”. The word “profiling” has a negative stigma attached to it due to its use in the past to categorize people by race under the phrase “racial profiling”. Another word for behavioral targeting could be “stereo typing” because at the end of the day you are just noticing patterns of behavior to draw logical conclusions about said individial. Now, behavioral profiling isn’t 100% accurate but with the complex algorithms of today and the use of AI technology, it’s getting scary how accurate it is. A good example of a “worse case scenario” use of behavioral targeting is in the movie “Minority Report” where the plot of the movie revolved around the use of behavioral profiling to arrest people for crimes they haven’t even committed yet.
