AKA Dark UX Patterns. In class we learn about cognitive ergonomics, how we as
designers focus on making products simple, clear, and easy to use with the right mental
model for our users. However the flip side of that is Deceptive UX Patterns that
deliberately mislead the user for the benefit of the product/ company.
The list includes, confirmshaming, disguised ads as content, bait and switch,
misdirection, sneak into basket, comparison prevention, trick questions, privacy
zuckering, plus many others.
In this project you will identify a digital service that you might use regularly, for example
downloading an image from unsplash.com. Your task is to redesign the process that you
normally do, but in this version, you must add two Deceptive UX Patterns. You must not
overly complicate the process, it should still be streamlined but the user should be
deliberately misled. You are not trying to create a bad UX experience, but to create an
experience that gives power to the product, while removing power from the user.
You will create a high fidelity screen flow using software of your choice, annotated to
show the deceptive ux patterns in place.
There will be up to a 10% BONUS grade if you use multiple (2 or more), Design
Research Methods you have never used before (see 101 Design Methods or UX
Methods).
