For the Final Project, students are to develop theory-based educational materials for a population on a specific health topic. Two excellent resources for this project are: Chapter 19 (from our Course Textbook) Community Toolbox (information from a public health website) Chapter 19 of the Course Textbook provides instructions for completing the PRECEDE/PROCEED needs assessment (social assessment, epidemiological assessment, etc). Chapter 17 in the Community Toolbox also provides useful information for this. In addition, Chapter 6, Sections 2 and 10-15 of the Community Toolbox offer tips for creating educational and marketing materials (e.g. posters/flyers, etc.) This project involves two components. The first component of this project includes a document detailing the population and health issue assessment, theory selection and rationale, objectives for the theory-based educational materials, and a theory chart. Specifically, students should address the following items: Health Issue Assessment: Explain what the health issue is and why this is an issue for your specific population. Social Assessment: Identify the quality-of-life and social factors surrounding the health problem. Epidemiological Assessment: Identify the prevalence/incidence of the health condition in the affected population. Behavioral and Environmental Assessment: Identify the behavioral and environmental factors that are linked to the health issue. Educational and Ecological Assessment: Identify the predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors linked to this health issue. Theory Selection and Rationale: Identify the connections between the health issue/problem and the theory you will be using. Goals and Objectives for the Educational Materials: List the goals and SMART objectives for your educational materials. Click this link for info about SMART objectives). Theory Constructs Chart: Each theoretical construct has a thorough explanation of how it is addressed in the materials (provides the information that is being used to address the construct). The second component of this project requires students to develop two educational materials for the selected population on a topic for a health promotion organization based on the assessment and theory selected in the first component. Students will be required to create at least two educational materials (e.g., video, poster/brochure, infographic cartoon, website, etc.). Feel free to use the following tools which are available for students to develop theory-based educational materials: PowToon (https://www.powtoon.com/ Links to an external site., Weebly (https://www.weebly.com/ Links to an external site.Links to an external site.Links to an external site.), and Canva (https://www.canva.com/ Links to an external site.are available for students to develop these theory-based educational materials. Each of these tools has tutorials to help you learn how to use them: Powtoon Tutorial Homepage Links to an external site. Weebly Tutorial Links to an external site. Canva Tutorial for Beginners Links to an external site. Follow the specific guidelines listed below to successfully complete this project. This project is worth 100 points. Late projects will not be accepted. Guidelines The paper should be typed up using the following guidelines: Use Times New Roman font, font-size 12. Materials should be aligned with the selected theory and objectives. Materials should demonstrate cultural competence – they should be appropriate for the selected population. Materials should include current, relevant, and accurate information about the health issue (such as healthcare providers in the area and where the population can access additional information). Materials should have a clear, consistent, aligned message and it is clear that materials are from the same program. Materials should be aesthetically pleasing and visually appealing. Spell-check and proof your work for grammatical errors. Ensure that you submit the following: Word document outlining the component of the project Two educational materials that may be in a variety of formats (eg., video, poster/brochure, infographic cartoon, website, etc.).
