Purpose:
The goal of this engagement activity is to now examine your world through the lens of your media use.
Assignment:
For each of the following categories you will select 1 artifact that represents you at this point in your life. You must select 4 different artifacts and can’t reuse. You will describe the artifact then reflect on what it says about you.
An artifact for the purpose of this assignment is anything found online (class appropriate of course) – a blog, a website, a news article, a meme, a post, a tweet, a page, a chatroom, a   podcast…etc (But yes class appropriate…=)
4 categories
Values- Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions. They help us to determine what is important to us. Values describe the personal qualities we choose to embody to guide our actions; the sort of person we want to be; the manner in which we treat ourselves and others, and our interaction with the world around us.
Views- Views will refer to your opinions formed by the media. This is where you develop a side of a situation and see something in a subjective way.
Thinking – Thinking will refer to how you have gained knowledge about a subject. The knowledge will be shaped by the artifact where you may only have a exposure to a single component, basic level, or incomplete understanding.
Identity – Identity will refer to representation and expression. Think of this category  as a way that we represent ourselves online and/or to the world. This can extend.          beyond the typical way we use the word “identity” to a number of different cultural   attributes. (i.e. I am a nerd who wears glasses and often create that image of           myself.)
Components of the paper:
Artifact Analysis (1200 words)
For each artifact analyze the following: (each artifact entry should be about 300 words)
Who created the artifact? For what purpose?
When was it created and in what context? (What was it responding to?)
How did you interpret the artifact? Are there other ways of interpreting the artifact?
Why do you feel the artifact represents either your values, views, thinking or identity?
All About Me Section (500 words)
So….what does this all mean? Explore in 500 words or more how the class material is              reflected in your artifact analysis. How is new media shaping you? Use at least two class     concepts (please bold the class concepts) and how they have impacted your life in some way.
Potential for Growth Section (500 words)
New Media can also help you grow and now is a great time to do this….
Select two NEW artifacts that you will follow and explain how you hope to grow          from them. (These would be ones that you haven’t been following or reading prior   to the class.)
Describe each artifact and tie it to the categories above.
Find specific points within the artifact that is a new discovery you want to learn more from.
