To begin your research inquiry, each student chooses a topic of interest and presents each
paper as a portrait to reflect re-thinking of intercultural communication (see chapter 3). One of
your goals is to provide your readers with an understanding of intercultural communication
from the critical perspective (in addition to the existing scientific and interpretive perspectives
commonly used when examining intercultural communication). Your final paper should be
based on a field study about your chosen broad topic. The purpose of the final paper is to give
you first-hand intercultural experience and opportunity to ask critical questions that perhaps
have not been asked and/or downplayed by other researchers. Both on the final paper and
during the final paper’s presentation, you should be able to demonstrate your understanding of
chosen intercultural communication topic from the various perspectives, including the critical
perspective
