What I know about Native History up to this point-
In my academic experience, the portrayal of Native Americans has often been limited to historical contexts, focusing on their past rather than their present. Lessons have typically emphasized events such as the arrival of Europeans, conflicts like the Trail of Tears, and the creation of reservations. While these are important parts of history, they often give the impression that Native American cultures are relics of the past.
I realize now that this approach can be misleading, as it overlooks the vibrant and diverse Native American communities that exist today. Contemporary Native Americans continue to contribute to all facets of society, maintain their cultural traditions, and advocate for their rights and governance.
