Select a topic of social and political relevance. This can be a topic we have already
discussed that you would like to develop further, or something altogether knew. If you
choose to develop a topic you examined earlier in the semester, your thoughts, quotes,
and citations, must be original. You can certainly express established ideas, but your
essay should introduce new supporting premises in support of your ethical position.
2. Use the writing style most comfortable for you, just be consistent. I prefer APA but use

4. Again, be consistent as your formatting and citations are components of your grade.
5. Your essay should be double-spaced, using 12-point font. Please use sans serif fonts or
something comparable.
6. The length of your essay should be between 4-5 pages.
7. Deliver thoughtful and original commentary on the subject.
8. The following are minimum formatting expectations:
1) Introduce an overview of the subject. 2) In the first paragraph, write a clear and
concise thesis statement thoughtfully representing your position.
3) Provide supporting premises. 4) Introduce possible counter arguments. 5) Briefly
respond to counter arguments, but do so comprehensively, a superficial gesture will not
suffice. 6) Provide a thoughtful summary explaining the importance of your argument.
