In this essay, you will become a participant, even a mediator, in the argument you see unfolding between Viego and Calvo and Esquibel.

Due to the nature of the argument we see emerge, especially due to Calvo and Esquibel′s frequent misreadings and misrepresentations of Vigo′s text and their defensive posturing in their response to his essay, you are practicing the art of respectfully critiquing an argument/paper/writer. In other words, much of what you will be doing in this paper is identifying and explaining Calvo and Esquibel′s misreadings, potentially thinking about the effect (rhetorical effects) of the misreading, and offering a corrective by referring to Viego.
Instructions: For this assignment, I recommend that, in addition to having as thorough an understanding of Vigo′s argument as possible, you select 3-4 main points that help you think about both of the articles together. Some questions to consider may include: How does the response work with or against Viego? Is there anything the response misses, overlooks, or misunderstands? What, if any, are agreements between the two works?
