Don’t just focus only one yourself; remember the ‘you-viewpoint’ – what will the company get out of hiring you?
Have at least 3 paragraphs:
First paragraph tells why you are writing – i.e. “to be considered for the brownie baking position listed in the Chicago Tribune”
Second paragraph lists a few things that make you perfect for the position, i.e. “as you can see from the attached resume, I eat a lot of brownies”
Last paragraph asks for action – “please contact me at your convenience to set up an appointment to discuss how I can help your company…..”
Include all of your contact information
Make sure your email address isn’t *************************** or ****************************** style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 1.5em; line-height: inherit; cursor: auto; color: inherit;”>Proofread your email SEVERAL times. You definitely don’t want misspelled words.
Also, make sure you don’t have too many sentences that start with “I…” Even though you are applying for a job, your focus should be on them and what you can do for the company.
Reread it one last time to make sure it doesn’t sound choppy. Use transition to combine sentences to make it flow smoothly.
Make it original. Employers don’t want emails that are all the same; it should reflect you. Also, remember to make the content substantially different from any online example or the plagiarism checker will flag your submission and you’ll receive a 0.
