Zboun, J., & Farrah, M. (2021). Students’ perspectives of online language learning during
Corona pandemic: Benefits and challenges. “Indonesian EFL Journal”, 7(1), 1–12.
This research article examines the student′s perceptions of their online language learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at Hebron University. Through quantitative methods, the researchers, Zboun and Farrah, collected data from around 82 students. They used a Likert-scale questionnaire and open-ended questions. They used these methods to gather their views. The study found that while students saw benefits to online classes like flexibility for exam preparation, they faced difficulties like unreliable internet, limited interactions with instructors and peers, and reduced motivation. These challenges led to decreased participation and understanding of the content. Overall, the disadvantages of online learning seem to outweigh the advantages from the student′s perspective. The authors concluded that improvements are needed to optimize the experience, although online options provide value in certain scenarios. They effectively captured student sentiment, saying, ″Based on their feedback, the downsides of remote classes were greater than the benefits″ (Zboun & Farrah, 2021), highlighting the importance of balancing online and in-person approaches to education.
