Case study: Kimberly is an Asian American female in the sixth grade. Kim’s teachers describe her as timid and withdrawn in the classroom. She was recently diagnosed with a learning disability, but her teachers often overlook her deficits because she is not a behavioral problem and has demonstrated reluctance to ask for help. Because she is an extremely hard worker, her overcompensation in the classroom has enabled her to disguise her true struggles with reading, writing, and mathematics. Since Kim personifies her cultural expectations, she often has difficulty working in pairs or small groups. Kim’s teachers identified the need to help her become more culturally congruent, but they have experienced some difficulty when it comes to communicating effectively with her parents. They are also concerned about the fact that Kim avoids eye contact and fails to recognize nonverbal and implied communication when conversing with others.
The seven steps to solving Ethical Dilemmas in this case study would be:

Step 3: Guiding Questions
Step 4: Identify alternative decisions
Step 5: Identify consequences for each alternative
Step 6: Rank order alternatives
Step 7: Monitor and modify the decision
