Assignment Overview
Project Brief:
The Senior Vice President of
Hakuna Matata Global Glory (HMGG), a successful multinational corporation,
calls you for a meeting. In addition to her, the Principal CFO of the
group, the Chiefs of Logistics and Operations, and a Director from the
Research and Development wing are also present.
HMGG is an MNC, with its origin
going back to the 1930s, a presence in 58 Countries, and its stock is
traded in the New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Mumbai, Paris, and London Stock
Exchanges. Its primary commercial and business activities center around
mining, bulk chemicals, logistics, and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG),
with a decade-old start-up in Robotics and Pharmaceuticals. Being
empathetic and concerned with human issues, they have a strong
relationship with the UN and the UN Agencies, along with several frontline
medical relief NGOs.
At the Senior VPs office, the
gathering commences the discussion with the topic of performance
appraisal, which is a discussion usually undertaken in the month of
January and the month currently being September. The group is extremely
appreciative of your performance and trajectory over the last five years,
especially your leadership, enthusiasm, ingenuity, and innovation, in the
Pharmaceutical Division of HMGG.
The Senior VP states, “your peer
ratings and subordinate assessments are among the top 2% in the entire
executive staff in HMGG” (numbering a total of 12,732 globally). She
stated, “we have no hesitation in moving you up to the Group CEO Grade
with effect from next month; the formal placement will take place in
January, which, as you are aware, is our convention, congratulations.” The
chief of Operations now took over. He was a tough, straight-talking
person, reputed to be very difficult to please.
Without any wasted words, he came
to the heart of the issue. “You know our injectables and respiratory
support products have done exceedingly well during the pandemic. Despite
our conscious lowering of prices, they have enabled surpluses which we
used to acquire a facility in Gujrat, India, to manufacture anti-malarial
and malaria prophylactic medication. While you are generally aware of
this, it was being led by R&D and Operations, and the following is
relevant:
Our drugs have been produced to
overcome some of the critical side effects of our competitors.
They have been designed to be
administered to the poorer sections of the population, who may have
different levels of health problems. This has been possible due to our
cooperation with the UN programmes.
Consequently, we should be able
to market to large sections of the populace, presently not covered by our
competitors, Global Sting and Buzz On.
From the Gujrat manufacturing
base, in the initial launch, we would seek to address the affected
population in East Africa and use this opening to expand into Central
Africa.
To begin with, we are also
committed to providing drugs to the UN In Country Programmes in East
Africa.
We prefer that the consignments
are sea transported and need a handling port in the Seychelles Islands.
The selected port should have suitable warehousing facilities for emergent
stock storage.
Clarity and focus are needed to
establish the range and spread of our marketing in East Africa and
identify ports’ logistic hubs.
Do not worry about the diplomatic
and other enabling activities and mechanisms; together with the specific
country-wise protocols, our Global diplomacy and facilitation teams will
handle it.
You need to focus on a project
implementation document which we need for the approval of the Board.
The medications will be ready for
marketing by the New Year, so your document should be ready and approved
before that.
6. The Senior VP smiled and said, “we have our heart set on this project
for many reasons; I have full confidence you will lead and mentor it to ensure
a great success; my senior PPS will give you the main segments of the report
that we are looking for, Hongera, as they say in Swahili, all the best.”
