But remember that all papers will be checked for plagiarism, so if you are using a celebrity and get info online, you will have many more citations to include in your paper, so there isn’t any plagiarism. It will most likely be easier to use your own life as the basic guideline for the paper, as you will have less research.

How have societal trends influenced your life choices? What social forces and social institutions (family, education, government, healthcare, economics, media) have impacted you? How might they differ from the social forces affecting your parent’s or grandparent’s lives? How would you be different if you had grown up in another country or another time?
Remember to use your Sociological Imagination, the method of viewing yourself within society and history, and the culture as a whole. Recall C. Wright Mills talking about where you are born and when you are born, personal troubles, and societal issues. How have they impacted your life?
You can use any terms from the textbook and as many as you wish, with at least 50 sociological terms. The sociological terms you use must pertain to your writing and be explained in the context of your description.
Use observations from your experiences in society and how they relate to sociological terms such as socioeconomic status, education, class, race, gender, sex, ethnicity, crime, globalization, meritocracy, mobility, work ethic, functionalism, and conflict views on class, language, ideology, gender roles, inequality, etc. as these are part of everyone’s life and the community around us.
We are all shaped and guided by social norms, habits, and society’s expectations. Remember, culture and socialization are essential parts of life. Family, peers, media, education, and government influence our lives significantly. Without them, we would not know how to survive. Include how your family’s culture and the community you were raised in influenced and socialized you. What are the most important cultural elements of your social group or subculture? Have these cultural values been passed down in your family or your neighborhood?
You MUST use sociological terms throughout the body of the paper, explaining the term in the context of your writing as you use it. Make sure you put each term in bold and cite it when necessary in the paper.
For example, “My sex was classified as female at birth, and my gender corresponds to that sex assignment, which makes me comfortable being cisgender (Conley 2021, p. 308) adult.”
You also must use at least two RELIABLE outside sources about a fact in your paper, along with the textbook. For example, when discussing a cultural perspective, possibly your family culture or religious influence that may have been dominant in your upbringing, add detailed information and statistics about that topic. Some informative facts could be the industry your parents worked in, the politics of the state you were raised in, or anything significant. Back it up with information and statistics about that topic from a reliable outside source and cite it correctly.
You can get reliable information from one of the Think Tank sources I listed below or use an online encyclopedia or other reliable source. Think tanks are an excellent resource for reliable information, so it is helpful to be aware of them. My personal favorite is PEW Research. You can never go wrong using Pew – in my opinion.
You may NOT use WIKIPEDIA or any random website. Use Only reliable sources and make sure you cite all your sources, including correctly in your paper and Reference list.
Again, the purpose of the writing is to view your story from a sociological perspective.
To make sociological meaning out of events, frame the experiences around specific sociological issues. Focus on the subject and try to step out of the event as an observer.
Insert the appropriate sociological terms from your textbook in your paper to analyze how the story relates to culture and society.
Let your sociological autobiography create an image of your socio-cultural perspective of your life.
Do not forget to cite in the text when necessary, and then list each full citation associated with your in-text citations in your Reference page at the end of your paper.
