Read the attached document from a peer student. Copyrights for the attached documents is not allowed as the paper does not belong to me.
Complete the following with topics for peer review listed below for the attached paper. Highlight/note comments on the attached document.
One page document should include the following: 1) summarize what they were trying to do, 2) comment on whether it is important, 3) comment on whether it wasn’t generally successful and what works well in the work, 4) comment on major issues that need to be addressed, 5) comment on minor issues and issues that could be left up to the discretion of the author.

The topics for peer review are:
Clear motivation and argument for an important problem to solve. How compelling was this opening?
Grounding in appropriate literature. You can comment on the logical flow of the argument, the detailed use of citations, clear presentation of evidence.
Clear articulation of two distinct research designs and theoretical lenses to solve the problem. You can include commentary on any overview figures that help you see the big picture of the study, as well as their overall proposal structure.
Theoretical integration / operationalization 1. How well was the theory defined, articulated, and situated within the study?
Research design 1. How detailed was the methods descriiption? Are data collection procedures specified? Are analysis procedures specified? Are details like recruitment, sample, population and institutional context, specified? If there are any important details you can think of that haven’t been named, please point them out. You can phrase it like “It was not clear from the proposal.” Were logical justifications provided for all research decisions?
Theoretical integration / operationalization 2. How well was the second theory defined, articulated, and situated within study 2?
Research design 2.
Critical analysis of research designs. Provide feedback on their critical analysis of research designs. If you think there are any important strengths and weaknesses that they missed, please suggest them. Remember critical analysis of strengths and weaknesses could include: methodological innovation or quality, theoretical alignment, an important under-studied research topic, a large sample size, etc. Help them think about the strengths and weaknesses that would separate Research Design 1 and 2 from other competitive proposals.
Writing Quality. How compelling and precise was the proposal writing? Are there areas of improvement for their writing style?
Citations and references. Any comments and feedback on citations and references, e.g., incorrect formatting or erroneous / non-existent references.
You don’t need to formally use it, but keep in mind you could structure using your prior review approach: 1) summarize what they were trying to do, 2) comment on whether it is important, 3) comment on whether it wasn’t generally successful and what works well in the work, 4) comment on major issues that need to be addressed, 5) comment on minor issues and issues that could be left up to the discretion of the author.

We will talk about these topics during class next week. Your 1 page (minimum) write up will be on class day November 19th, class time or by the end of the day November 19th (if you have additional commentary from your discussion).
