I completed the outline and I have the sources and annotated bibliography there attached—Students are required to produce a compelling assessment of a theoretical case of a juvenile defendant. The student will assume the role of a forensic clinician who is evaluating a detained juvenile’s biological, psychosocial, and socioeconomic needs, and will present this information in the format of a letter to a criminal court judge advocating for the defendant’s diversion from jail and into an alternative to incarceration program. The case facts will be provided to students. Based on this framework, students will ultimately formulate a forensic assessment with recommendations to the court for a treatment-focused disposition. The assessment will be a minimum of ten pages typed, double-spaced with one-inch margins. Students must incorporate a minimum of eight scholarly references, at least four of which are not on the syllabus; assessments must include a list of works cited, formatted in APA style. Students will be evaluated out of 100 points for the following: Demonstration of an understanding of criminal procedures and laws (10 points); biopsychosocial assessment and diagnostic impressions (25 points); description of ATI program as relevant to client’s needs (25 points); persuasiveness of proposed disposition (25 points); and integration of scholarly research and clarity of writing (15 points).
