Structure of your assessment:
The following provides you with a guide as to the expected structure of your assessment. This
assessment is a portfolio structure, as this provides an element of flexibility and creativity as to how
you present your research and the findings from the data collection exercise.
The structure for the portfolio is as follows:
1: Executive summary/overview: 200 words
This section will provide an overview of the key content within the portfolio itself, as well as
reinforcing reasons for the decisions that have been made, how it compliments Qatar’s tourism
offering. Enforce the current vibrancy of the tourism offering in Qatar, whilst also highlighting how
your proposed campaign/sub-brand complements the offering already presented through VisitQatar
as a destination marketing organisation.16
2: The country of Qatar: 500 words
This section of the portfolio will provide detail as to Qatar itself, its history and how this relates to
tourism in the country, key statistical information regarding tourism in Qatar and the surrounding
countries.
This section will also identify the current key tourism campaigns and products located within Qatar,
coupled with evidence from academic literature and published research as to the significance of
these products and how they complement the overall destination image of Qatar.
3: The principles of destination management, and the importance of social media: 800 words
This section of the portfolio will include an academic literature review of some of the key theoretical
considerations of destination management, including definitions, characteristics, structure and key
contemporary issues. Furthermore, this section will also include a discussion related to social media,
its importance for destination management and the wider tourism industry, and how it can help
contribute to towards the nighttime economy.
4: Findings from the data collection exercise: 800 words
In this section you are asked to provide some key observations from the findings of the
questionnaire data collection exercise. In this section we subsequently need to present the data in
an appropriate format, highlight through description the key points we want the reader to focus on,
and then start to evaluate analyze how this data could be used for reinforcing a social Media
campaign for the events economy Qatar.
5: Initial recommendations: 200 / 250 words
The recommendation section is a short section but will reinforce some of the initial
recommendations proposed from the analysis in the previous section. As a result, this section can be
partially completed using a straightforward ‘bullet point’ approach of key points that have been
identified as part of the exercise. The section can also include ‘ next steps’ as to what you believe
destination managers should now focus on next to reinforce the significance of the events
economy/industry.
6: Reference list in alphabetical order and in the Harvard system (Note: this does not go towards
the overall word count).
Word count total: 2500/2550 words
