For this week’s assignment, you are playing the role of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who has been working in the field for several years. Recently, you completed work on an interesting case, and you plan on presenting your work at a conference. Refer to Section 5 of the Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts to explain your responsibility in public statements and from Section 6 to explain how you will adhere to ethical guidelines when completing and presenting your research. You will also discuss multiculturalism as it pertains to this case.

Lois is a preschooler of Asian descent. You have been working with Lois’ instructional team on a variety of age-appropriate skills acquisition programs including one that is for establishing and maintaining eye contact. Before implementing this program, you discussed it with Lois’ parents to ensure you fully understood and respected their cultural views on eye contact, particularly eye contact between children and adults. With their approval, you successfully implemented a shaping procedure to teach Lois to make brief eye contact with an adult for a duration of 3s when her name is called. Following the initial intervention, you then successfully implemented generalization and maintenance programs to generalize Lois’ new skill across instructors and locations.
Now that you have intervened successfully taught this behavior in a culturally responsive way, you would like to present your experiences at Purdue Global’s next ABA conference. Lois’ family is willing to give you permission to present your findings. You must consider your ethical responsibility in making public statements and presenting your research.
