Hello everyone,
Your discussion post for this week is as follows….
Please review the guidelines for discussion posts in the syllabus before constructing your post. According to your readings this week, please discuss the concept of freedom in the Black American experience and the impacts of the Emancipation Proclamation? Did this legal document issued on January 1, 1863 effectively free all enslaved peoples in the United States? Yes or no and please explain your reasoning behind your response.
TRIGGER WARNING – Both the reading and our class discussion post for this week require you to engage in a conversation about slavery and enslavement as well as the forced migrations of people from different parts of the world. Please note that while you ARE required to read and engage with this content alongside your classmates, you are NOT required to agree with the author’s views or your classmates views and also you are NOT required to share your own trauma or ancestral complexities in relation to slavery to engage in class discussion. Since we are all still getting to know each other, please be mindful as you share your discussion posts of how your language, tone, and word choice may be perceived by someone of a different race, class, or gender identity before you publish your post.
