– Identify one key policy document relation to an area of clinical practice.
– Discuss the implications to person centred nursing care, supporting discussions with robust and contemporary literature.

Introduction (150-200 words)
– What is the purpose of the essay?
– What is the content?
– EBP
– Include a statement of confidentiality supported by literature.
– Use of tool and why?
Main Body (1600 words)
– What is EBP, why is it important to nursing and nursing care policy – link to NMC.
– Discuss the relevance of EBP to nursing care policy – what is EBP, why is it important to nursing and nursing care policy – link this to NMC (2018)
– Local trust policies are recommended, but you can use a national policy. You need to anonymise the policy, in text and in the reference list – Local Trust Policy (Year) or NHS Policy (Year).
Rationale for choosing the policy.
– Why is it important? Why have I picked this?
– How can it reduce risks to patients? – include stats- cost, quality of life, reduction in hospital admissions.
– Go into depth of the history and it developments, how it has been implored.
Discuss the Policy
– What is the nature of the policy?
– What is the purpose of the policy?
– Who is it targeted towards – staff, patients, both?
– How was it developed ?- relates to the underpinning literature used to develop the policy.
– Discuss the evidence, the quality of the evidence- relate to the hierarchy of evidence and support points with literature. Be critical.
Critique a piece of research
– Focus on one piece of research that has been used to develop the policy.
– Qualitative or quantitative, or a combination of both.
– Use a tool to critique- CASP, JBI or RCN. Pick main 10 questions, subheadings. (Rationale)
– Look at the ethics in the research, has an application been made? How? Why is it important.
Consent – Discuss consent, draw on research methods- use literature to support. Research method- was the right one used for the type of study- support this also.
Discuss the importance of service user and carer involvement in research: Design, delivery and evaluation of the research. – where the participants vulnerable?, was there a pilot study? Why would this be important?

Bring all of this together – EBP in nursing in general, link to person-centred care and EBP in clinical area. Does the policy enable us to deliver person-centred care using EBP.
Conclusion (200 words)
– Summarise what has been discussed- key points, nothing new can be built, support with literature within discussion.
– Relay critique, how does the policy enable good nursing practice in a clinical setting and look into comparing how this compares to policies.
– Discuss the use of the CASP tool or whatever tool is used, and discuss why they are beneficial use and they aid in critiquing the policy.
– Round up points, what was the main issues and strengths of the policy and how it governs effective nursing practise with a clinical setting .
– What has happened in the past, any incidents that have occurred that caused or altered the policies.
– Discus what literature has been used to support points, and why it was chosen to be used.
– Discuss the critique tool, and why it was important to use and
