1) Introduction (~1-1.5 pages)
– Introduce your topic with a real life example of its application (this could be a case study or a made up example)
– Explain why studying this topic is important
– Explain why the topic is of interest to you
2) Literature Review (~3-4 pages)
– Must include at least 6 primary journal articles
For EACH article you should:
a) Provide a summary of the article (focus on the methods, results, conclusions, and limitations). The summary should be at least 150 words PER ARTICLE. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE DIRECTLY FROM THE ARTICLE. Write this in your own words
b) Include 2-3 sentences about how it relates to your topic. What did you learn from the article and what questions do you still have?
c) Include 1-2 paragraphs about what you learned from this literature review as a whole. What do the articles agree (or not) agree on? What gaps in the literature still exist (i.e., what variables or questions relevant to the topic were not addressed by these articles)
3) Research Proposal (~2 pages)
– Propose a study that you would like to conduct on the topic to extend the findings
o NOTE: you do NOT need to actually collect the data for this study, which means you can assume that you have unlimited budget and access to unlimited to participants (for example, if you want to get a brain scan for every participant, you are welcome to propose to do so)
– Your proposal should include:
o What is your research question?
o What are your hypotheses (what do you expect to find and why)? Relate this back to your literature review
o Who are the participants?
o What are the relevant variables
§ How will you measure these variables
o What will the participants do (what is the experimental protocol)?
