Hello, my name is Muhammad. This assignment is for my Oral Communications class. Before you read the class instructions, I’d like to mention that my speech will be about the “Right to Repair.” I believe consumers should be able to find parts and repair their devices without any issues, without having to go to the manufacturer or an authorized dealer.
I run a side business where I fix and repair electronics, including phones, tablets, and computers. Another possible topic for my speech is how Milwaukee, a tool company, makes quality tools and why most tradespeople prefer it over other brands. I chose these topics because they allow me to provide visual aids during my speech. Below are the instructions from my professor for the informative speech.
Class Instructions:
This discussion forum/chapter assignment is included in your final grade and is scored out of 10 points.
This assignment involves uploading your rough draft outline of your informative speech – please USE the the attached file. Your outline should be IN THE FORMAT provided in the attached template. Please see the attached file, download this file, complete it in the correct format shown in example outlines on pgs 337 – 340 of your text, rename it with your name and then upload to this assignment link. Remember this is a rough draft that you may revise using instructor feedback and finish for your speech day. (10 points)
Instructions:
SPEECH #2 – Informative Speech
Please review the following speech information before constructing your rough draft outline. A visual aid is required.
Length: 5-7 minutes
Points possible: 100
Formal, completed outline required on day of speech
Your goal is to enhance the audience’s awareness about a subject that is unfamiliar to them. Your informative speech should convey knowledge and understanding of your subject, but avoid overestimating your audience’s knowledge. This is best done by avoiding technical terms, relating the subject directly to them, being specific, and personalizing your ideas. Your aim is to give information as impartially as possible, not to argue a particular point of view.
Option A: Speech about a Person, Place or Object
Choose a specific purpose that focuses on one aspect of your subject.
Option B: Speech about an Event or Phenomena
There are many ways to discuss events or phenomena. You can recount the history of the event/phenomena; explain the causes and/or effects, or discuss features, origins, implications, benefits, future developments, etc.
Option C: Speech about a Concept, an Issue, a Process or a Policy
Include beliefs, theories, ideas, principles, and the like. This is usually the most abstract and complex type of informative speech. Therefore, be sure to avoid technical terms, define terms that may be unfamiliar, and use plenty of examples.
Requirements:
Use of a visual aid is required.
The speech must include a minimum of 3 sources used to develop your speech.
You must document your sources on a references page done in APA or MLA format in your formal outline
Try to extemporaneously deliver your speech from brief notes. You should not read your speech and should make eye contact as much as possible.
