1) The role that the field of anthropology played in moving Native American objects and bodies into museums is well established. How does the life history of Ishi, thought to be the last Yahi Indian in California, embody the complicated and difficult history of Native Americans relationship with anthropology and museums? Discuss the motivations behind the desire by scientists to both study and display Ishi in the early 20th century, and the ongoing significance of his story today.

What types of displays of Native Americans were produced during this period, and how have they continued to influence our understanding of Native American history and culture?

3) The passage of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act in 1990 was a significant achievement for Indigenous repatriation activists. Explain the significance of the law, discuss the historical processes that created the issues that NAGPRA has sought to address, and the challenges that remain with compliance. What efforts are tribes currently undertaking to address the reluctance of some institutions to repatriate ancestors and cultural belongings?
