Topic: The final portion of “Afritude Sauce” describes Egan’s feelings as a he returns to the hotel and finds a complaint sheet by the previous inhabitant of the room—the fact that the complaint sheet has not even been read is important. Egan has a stain of Afritude sauce on his pants, and is feeling a bit queasy from the food and drinks he has consumed. Egan’s experiences at the hotel thus duplicates that of the prior inhabitant. They also recall Egan’s visit to Hani View, during which Egan is asked to field the complaints of a tenant, complaints about which he can do nothing yet cannot avoid either, and that he listens to in the name of “reconciliation” (you might want to consider that Egan’s phone conversation with his wife is also about complaints). Discuss, in the context of post-Apartheid, the significance of the fact that Egan’s hotel experience repeats, perhaps by reversing, his experience at Hani View.
