Write a primary source analysis essay which presents a historical argument based on 2 primary sources. You may choose any primary sources from the topics we have discussed in weeks 1-4 of the course. So, that means you can: 1. Choose from any of the sources we have discussed together in class (see topics pages under our home page). 2. Or you can choose from the sources provided in in these sections of the American Yawp: https://www.americanyawp.com/reader/reconstruction/Links to an external site. https://www.americanyawp.com/reader/17-conquering-the-west/Links to an external site. https://www.americanyawp.com/reader/16-capital-and-labor/Links to an external site. https://www.americanyawp.com/reader/18-industrial-america/Links to an external site. 3. Or you can also choose any other primary sources that fit within the time period we have covered so far in class. If you do so, you must make sure to show them to me ahead of time so that we can be on the same page. You may advance an argument in any direction as long as the primary sources support your point and the argument is historical. Make sure your argument is based on the primary sources; you should use the textbook only as background information for your essay if necessary. Your essay will be graded on the quality of the argument. Both content and form–what you are arguing and how you present the argument– will determine the quality of your argument. So make sure you have a clear introduction which introduces your topic and includes a thesis statement. A thesis statement is one sentence stating your argument in a nutshell. Your body paragraphs should have clear topic sentences, cited evidence, and analysis. A good conclusion will include both a brief summary of your argument and statements about its significance. Paper requirements: 2 primary sources 2-3 pages in length include a title use citations –MLA parenthetical citations with source listed at the end is best for this assignment double-spaced 1 inch margins Times New Roman font 12-point font
