You will be creating a simple Adobe Express (formerly Adobe Spark) web page which is a story using text, images, and video. When you’re done Express will present your story as a responsive web page that can be viewed in any web browser and device. The finished project can be shared and used to educate others about your research topic that includes: oral history interviews, text, voice, audio, photos. 
The purpose of this topic proposal assignment is to get you to start researching and planning. For the oral history component of the assignment, you need to arrange with the person(s) you wish to interview now.
Submit a 2-4 page, double-spaced, topic proposal for your project.
Pick a topic that deals with an adversity faced by the Asian American community. The topic needs to be social issue related and take a problem-solving approach to the conflict. Must be specific and not general. You can choose from this recommended listLinks to an external site.
Integrate oral history to your Adobe Express Page. You can interview your parents or grandparents about their lives. The oral history interview component should focus on a theme and not be interviews with your peer group. In preparation, think of at 3-4 basic questions to ask. The book CrescencianaLinks to an external site. began with 10 years ago when one of my students interviewed his Filipina grandmother about her life. It became the basis for his book which was a collaboration with his late grandmother. The student Kenneth Tan gives credit to taking my Asian American Studies class to create the basis for his book project. Think about this project as something that can be shared with the community.
Another suggestion is to select a topic from the Field Trips list, many of them are recorded and if needed, reinterview some of the speakers or add additional interviews into the project. 
You are required here to submit a paper abstract and an annotated bibliography. 2 pages double-spaced. See Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 below.
Part 1. Project Abstract. A paper abstract is a written summary of the topic and subject of your project. Usually it is no more than one page long double-spaced. It contains at least two paragraphs that mention (a) the subject of your research; (b) the topic you will investigate; (c) questions that are central to your work; (d) the text(s) and sources you will use; and e) with regards to interviews, provide a list of interview questions.  A well written abstract begins with a concern or problem that you want to discuss or research followed by a brief discussion about why you chose to research this problem. What questions interest you and why? Then include a focused and detailed discussion on what aspect of the problem you will address. 
Part 2. Annotated Bibliography. You are asked to complete an annotated bibliography on the topic/theme that you have chosen and that you have written about in your abstract. The annotated bibliography is an essential part of any research project and it will help you with identifying peer-reviewed materials as well as familiarizing yourself with proper reference guidelines. 
An annotated bibliography is an alphabetically ordered list of references, resources, books, articles, and web pages that have a brief analytical explanation or description. It is intended to help in the process of collecting your resources for a research project or paper and is a way of deciphering sources that are scholarly and peer-reviewed in nature versus sources that are not. For example, a peer-reviewed article is more likely to have “validity” in its claims since it has been looked over by experts in the topic. On the other hand, an article from a newspaper or non-peer reviewed journal might not necessarily have this process of fact checking.
Part 3. Adobe Express Support. Provide an outline for the project including: cover graphics design, sounds and music, research, interview, and technical issues you may need to address. See Bcourses Menu Bar — “Adobe Express Support”.
Note: An annotated bibliography does not mean that you have to read the entire document. You are trying to look for sources that talk about your research topic. It may be that a book or article only talks about your topic in a few sentences or a section of the paper. You can do an annotation of that section. 
Annotated Bibliography Guidelines:
You must have at least 5 bibliographical sources of which, (3) must be primary or secondary sources that are peer-reviewed or in academic books. Two or more sources may come from interviews, credible web pages and magazines. 
In oral history interviews, make sure to also put them in your annotated bibliography with pseudonyms with subjects who don’t want to have their real name included.
There should be at least a paragraph minimum written as your annotation. Some annotations may be longer than one page. That is normal and fine and it shows that you have found a reference that will help you in your project.
The bibliography should ALWAYS be in alphabetical order according to last name.
Be consistent in your bibliographical reference style. Some of you are accustomed to using MLA or APA. Be consistent in your style. I do not have a preference.
