The purpose of this assignment is for you:
To define more clearly what your project is intended to do for the organization you have chosen.
Please submit an essay-style (no bullet points please) document that includes the following:
A. Information about the organization you are studying
Name of organization
Identify if there is a specific unit within the organization that you will be focusing on
Size of unit you will be studying (how many employees, approximately, work within the unit that you are focusing on?)
Purpose of the organization: What do they do? What industry do they operate in?
B. A problem statement with the following components:
Define the problem: What is the problem that you are trying to solve for the organization? Who is impacted by the problem? Be as specific as possible.
Evidence that supports the existence of the problem (how do you know this is a problem?).
Explanation of why the problem is critical to address: Why does it matter?
What are the possible reasons for why the problem exists? Do you have any clues yet from your research about the organization and the problem?
A list of references that you have used to help you write this problem statement (See note about citations below). As mentioned in the team project overview, once you have an inclination as to what the problem might be, you need to start your research on the particular problem, starting with the textbook. You want to include those citations in this section of the paper so I can get a good understanding of the resources you have used to jumpstart your research for this problem.
Format: Maximum of 4 pages double-spaced (Times New Roman, 12-point-font, inch margins). The citations page does NOT count towards this page count.
Citation guidelines:
For each source you use to develop your ideas, include reference citations in the text using the APA style.
Be sure to include a references list at the end of the paper that includes every resource you reference in the paper. This list should also be formatted in APA style. That includes all resources introduced in class such as the textbook, the readings, Internet resources and video lectures. When in doubt, cite your work! Also, be sure to cite your work multiple times as appropriate. For example, if you reference a specific article in your introduction to discuss the importance of the problem you studied and you then propose a solution later in the paper based on the same article, be sure to reference the article in both sections. Don’t assume the reader can make the connection between the two sections.
Whenever you make statements that are grounded in research, you must provide a citation to provide evidence for the statement. Unless there is an in-text citation, I must assume you are presenting your personal opinion in the matter. But since your papers should be about academic research and evidence-based management and not your personal opinion, this can seriously hurt your grade. So make sure you over- rather than under-cite!
Be sure to identify direct quotes as such – otherwise our plagiarism checking software will alert me to a concern that I will need to report, if significant.
