The Fourth and Final Project: The Argumentative Researched Essay
Our final project, The Argumentative Researched Essay, asks you to synthesize all of the work we’ve done this semester in English 101, evolve your understanding of our English 100 concepts and techniques, and thereby deliver a compelling final paper. This researched argument should be 1200-1400 words You do not have to mention any of these terms explicitly in the paper. However, do make an argument with a clear logical thesis (logos) that tells an emotionally compelling (pathos) story supported by credible evidence (ethos). Address an urgent silence (exigence). Utilize powerful firsthand accounts (primary sources). Reflect on your own blind spots (exigence/confirmation bias) and acknowledge your opposition. Take the time to build a complex argument. Make sure your thesis is clear. Locate your argument in a specific place/space (location/conversation). Establish a cause-and-effect claim. Support it. Develop a structure for your argument The papers must contain quotes from at least three secondary sources and at least two primary sources.
