The American Revolution and the War for Independence were both justified in their time based on eighteenth-century ideologies of liberty, natural rights, and equality under the law. These ideologies were so important to the early founders that their influence can be felt in both the Declaration of Independence (1776) and the new U.S. Constitution (1787). While it′s clear that white, land-owning men were the primary beneficiaries of these ideologies, can we see any examples in which women benefited? If so, who? Or, did things get worse for women after the war? If so, who and why?
In a minimum of 500 words, please discuss how the status of American women changed in the years after the American Revolution (1780-1810). Was there improvement? Decline? No change at all? Please provide at least 2 examples from the lectures and/or textbook to support your claims.
Your response should be in complete sentences and be reasonably free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Please respond to the post of at least 1 of your peers. You can agree or disagree with them, you can commend them on a particular insight, respectfully challenge them to think about something differently, etc. There is no required word count for the peer reply.
When discussing American women, it′s important to be clear which American women you are talking about; do not use the term ″American women″ as a synonym for ″white women.″
Unless you are quoting word for word, no citations are needed as I′m assuming you are only using the above-mentioned sources.
DO NOT use any outside information (e.g. Google search) to complete this assignment. Between the textbook info and the content I′ve made, there is plenty of information to use.
Be sure to ground your assignment in historical context (putting your response in an appropriate time/decade/year).
