The aim of the essay is to respond to the assigned question by reading, interpreting, and applying the content of two scholarly articles. Writing tips:

Avoid long direct quotes. You are being assessed on how you can explain and interpret ideas from the course and journal readings in your own words.
Be sure to directly reference and cite the journal readings and, if relevant, the course textbook in your answers. Additional outside sources are encouraged, but not mandatory.
Ground your answers in the history covered in the relevant level of the class. If the journal prompt question is in level 2, then ONLY use content from level 2 to answer the question.
If the question asks for examples then it is important you use examples.
