For this assignment, students will apply Systems Based thinking to a public health problem by first identifying and describing a specific health inequity that disproportionately affects a marginalized group. Using frameworks provided in class, students will then research the determinants of their chosen health problem; namely the specific structural and systemic factors that contributed to the health problem. Students will then propose an intervention to address their selected health problem and promote health equity in the chosen community. Clearly articulate SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) objectives for your micro and macro level interventions.
This assignment will include an optional outline due April 17th. Outlines will be reviewed in class via peer review sessions.  This outline may be a detailed layout of your planned paper or can simply be notes/rough ideas to go over with a peer. Additional instructions to be provided in class.
Maximum 10 page (5 points each)
Part 1 Identify and describe a specific public health problem that disproportionately affects a particular marginalized group.
Part 2 Discuss the relevant social and systemic determinants that engender the public health problem.
Part 3 Micro-intervention: Formulate a plan to engage with a client (real or imagined) facing this particular problem (use a pseudonym to preserve client confidentiality). Advise them on the specific resources, supports, and social programs available to them in their specific community using real world examples.
Part 4 Macro-intervention: Design a community level advocacy, strategy, policy or intervention that specifically addresses the determinants that you described in Step 2
Part 5 Evaluation: Create a plan for evaluating the efficacy of your proposed interventions. How might you measure or obtain feedback on your interventions? (ex. development of a survey, focus groups, individual interviews, use of an evidence-based tool to measure outcomes, etc.)
