Research and write a 5-year professional plan in ppt slide format (that you will present in class) for
your post-BSN career to include the following components:
a. Prepare a 5-year plan that clearly describes your career plan for this time-period using
the SMART approach (see textbook, or another approach that you must describe) to
planning. Identify key milestones and goals in your plan (Year 1 study for nclex, Year 2 working in desired specialty labor and delivery or icu year 3 get cerftified in desired specailty 4 enroll in msn program for nursing education or FNP, year 5- work in a school or facilty with msn as educator or FNP etc.) or similar
approach showing specific target dates for competencies/certifications, positions,
educational attainments, etc. needed to meet your career and professional objectives
by end of the 5-year plan. Leadership
b. Research at least 2 professional nursing organizations (must cite each website and
other articles about the organization) AND at least 2 certifications that you might
consider joining/obtaining to further your professional growth and clinical knowledge
and/or leadership. Briefly discuss the background, role, membership requirements,
resources, and networking/mentoring opportunities offered by these organizations,
your rationale for obtaining certification, and how they can contribute to your
professional growth and career goals.
c. Some examples of professional goals for nurses include: acquiring specific clinical
skills/expertise, working on a specific unit or in a specific specialty area or a specific
institution, acquiring/earning specific professional certifications, improving
communication, management and/or leadership skills, earning a promotion, additional
educational goals (earn another degree(s), financial goals, work/life/health balance
goals.
Minimum of 12 slides (not including title slide and references; must include minimum of 5 references
(APA format) from leadership and management peer-reviewed journals and no more than 2
websites. The scholarly articles provide the foundation for the exploration of the career and
professional development concepts in your paper. Note that Chapter 11 of the textbook also has
material that pertains to this assignment.
