o Scroll down and click on any of the Clinical Practice Guidelines within the current
Academy endorsement cycle.
2. You will read through the guideline to identify the recommendations/statements for patient
care covered in the guideline. You will list all recommendations, up to six of them.
3. Search in the LUO Jerry Falwell Library or other reputable sites for 4 RESEARCH journal
articles (published within past 10 yrs. for this assignment) that support and show research for
some of the various recommendations/statements covered in the guideline you chose. Chose
2 quantitative and 2 qualitative research articles that support the recommendations/advice in
the guideline that you chose. (One of the articles may be a mixed method research article.)
 Later in the course, you will be identifying the Levels of Evidence for each article that
you chose. Therefore, you need research articles. It would serve you well to look ahead to
the instructions for the Levels of Evidence Assignment so that you can ensure that the
levels of evidence can be identified in each of the 4 articles as required. Search for your opic and add words like “quantitative”, “qualitative”, “mixed methods”, “systematic
review”, randomized control trial, etc.
4. Fill out the Literature Review Template with the information that you identified in each of
your 4 articles. Review the template and fill out each section appropriately:
 Student Name and Date: Include your name and the date the assignment is submitted
 Clinical Guideline Title: Type the guideline title as it is written in the actual guideline
 Guideline Recommendations: List and explain all recommendations in the guideline to
direct patient care up to a limit of 6. Explain each recommendation in 50 words or less.
 Reference for Guideline: Put an APA-formatted reference, including a hanging indent,
for the guideline in the appropriate space provided.
 Literature Review Title: Articles: Type in each article’s full title in APA formatting in the
provided spaces. Be certain that Article 1 matches Article 1 in the reference list at the
bottom of the template. References are to be in alphabetical order by the first letter of the
first author’s last name of each article.
 Guideline Recommendation: Identify which of the guideline recommendation each article
supports.
 Purpose of the research: Briefly explain the purpose of the research of each article.
 Results/Findings of the research: This information is usually found in the abstract and/or
toward the end of each article
 Dependent variable: Explain the dependent variable. This is sometimes found in the title
of the article or in the abstract or summary. This is the variable that is being evaluated.
 Independent variable: Explain the independent variable. This is what is predicted to
change or affect the dependent variable, or what is being controlled or introduced to test
the dependent variable?
 Research Method: Identify if the research project was quantitative, qualitative, or mixed
method research
 Research Design: Identify the design of the research project such as; case-control trial,
cohort study, cross-sectional study, descriptive study, expert committees, focus groups
using interviews/questionnaires, literature reviews, longitudinal study, meta-analysis,
meta-synthesis, observational study, opinion of authorities, qualitative study, quasi-
experimental study, randomized control trial, systematic review of literature, etc. How was the data collected: Identify how the data was collected such as; Questionnaire,
interviews, observations, measurements, systematic review of literature/articles, etc.
 Sample: Who? What? Number of participants? Number of articles reviewed? etc.
 Biblical Integration: If you quote Scripture, you must explain how it is integrated into the
assignment. You must include an in-text citation for the version of the Bible used.
 References: The references are to be formatted in APA formatting, including a hanging
indent. List in alphabetical order by the first letter in the first author’s name in each
article. The number of the article must match the number in the template above the
reference list.
 Version of Bible: Put the version of the Bible in the indicated spot on the template, even
though it may not be in alphabetical order with the other references.
