Peer Reviewed Article
The peer reviewed article I chose is, Olanzapine versus haloperidol in the treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective and schizophrenia disorders: Results of an international collaboration trial (1997). This article relates to my practice area of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practice program because the article discusses research on commonly evaluated disorders and commonly used medication for those disorders (Tollefson, et al., 1997). This article is interesting to me because at my job, we usually use olanzapine or haloperidol intramuscular injections for acute psychotic agitation and it’s interesting to see why a provider would choose one over the other depending on the patient.
Database
Using the Walden University Library (n.d.), I was able to find the database EBSCOhost Research Platform (n.d.) that I used to find my peer reviewed article. I would recommend the EBSCOhost Research Platform to others because of the ability to specify Psych APA section of articles, Thesaurus dedicated to psychology terms, the ability to ask the librarian for article search help and the citation generator for each article (n.d.). I did not have any difficulties being able to find articles with this database. This database would be useful to my colleagues and I because it has a specified section that is dedicated to Psychiatric and psychology articles to narrow down search options when searching for psychiatric knowledgeable articles (EBSCOhost Research Platform, n.d.). The article would also be helpful to my colleagues and myself because it has a built- in citation machine for each article making it less likely for a citation error when generating the citation (EBSCOhost Research Platform, n.d.).
