Respond to  2 students discussion using the rise Model
Due Wednesday April 5, 2024 by 10:00 pm
NOTE: This is a School Counseling Course
Must Read Everything:
Reply to at least two classmate’s posts, applying the RISE Model for Meaningful Feedback
I will also show an example below of how the response needs to be addressed.
Here’s an example of how the response should look. Please don’t copy it.
The response to the classmate need to be just like this.
Example Response (Response Needs to be written just like the response below No copying)
RISE Feedback:
REFLECT: I concur with “Action plans should reflect the type of services that are needed and have an idea of the expected outcome of the services” because it is in line with Hatch and Hartline’s intentional school counseling guidelines in regards to determining students needs.
INQUIRE: Can you further explain what “closing-the-gap action plans” are?
SUGGEST: I encourage you to revisit Hatch and Hartline’s MTMDSS tier interventions in order to add a citation that would illustrate your example on bullying prevention efforts.
ELEVATE: What if you re-purposed “For example, after a needs assessment, the school is having problems with bullying” as “Following Trish Hatch’s MTMDSS tier based interventions, if the school is having problems with bullying, after a needs assessment, we could… citation…”  for a more weighted argument?

What are some challenging skills that a school counselor may experience?
I think that the most challenging skills that a school counselor may need to learn is flexibility. First of all, the flexibility to switch constantly from students in crisis, student academics, collaborating with parents/admin/teachers, SEL, college, the list goes on. As a school counselor, we have to be equipped with the knowledge and the skills in order to do the task at hand. There have been times on the walkie talkie at school where different educational professionals will literally try to contact the counselor at the same time. Secondly, school counselors must have the emotional flexibility to handle these many tasks, prioritizing and scheduling in order to efficiently complete tasks at hands. Thirdly, school counselors must be flexible in catering to the student needs. As counselors, we may be arisen with problems and the deeprooted issue may not be what is right in front of you. I am trying to learn to be flexible as an intern, and I hope that with more experience I can be even more flexible in the future.

Describe your experiences with post-secondary planning and/or implementation.
Working at the high school level is really rewarding for many reasons. Seeing the maturity level of freshman to seniors is interesting’s. This is most noticeable in classroom presentations and class selections. Another nig factor with class selections for post-secondary is students in the regular classes VS the AP and IB classes. I thought for sure that the AP and IB students would be easier and smoother. They were not. These students have a plan and goals they feel they must achieve before high school graduation. Most of these students will be dual enrolled in high school and college classes by their junior year if not sooner and possibly graduate with their AA. They want to make sure they not only take classes for A-G but also classes that will raise their GPA to above the 4.0 and also give them a better transcript. I tried to encourage these students to also focus of extracurricular and clubs because that will make them more rounded when applying to college. We try to keep their 4 year plans up to date yearly, some students don’t for different reasons such as no interest in post-secondary education, not being there when classroom lessons are presented, lack of knowledge on using Student information systems or they just don’t do it. Our goal is to help all students, so we do classroom lessons and when reports are run and we see who is missing we also call them in for one on ones sometimes they come but others don’t. I did suggest sending out parent square notifications so parents know when these lessons will happen but for whatever the reasons they are not.
