Purpose
For this assignment, you have to select an academic article on a topic within the area of supply chain management. The topic should be related to one of the class lectures, including topics such as purchasing, distribution, supply chain design, resilience, strategy (agility), sustainability (social or environmental), coordination, e-commerce, etc. in supply chains. For a full overview, please check the topics discussed in the syllabus. You can select such an article in one of these academic journals: Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management or Journal of Operations Management in the period from 2018 onwards. You can access these journals on bibeco.ulb.be. Make sure that the article is related to supply chain management, not just operations management.
Please read the article and link it to (1) the class content and (2) to a recent phenomenon discussed in the press. So, you need to discuss how is this linked to something you have seen in class, as well as to a media article. Your document should also contain your own reflections, such as: how does this topic impact a company’s practice or society? How important is it? What can be done? Why should this be explored further? How does this change your perception on reality? In the reflection part, you should explain your logic or reasoning. It is important to make connections between your observations, readings, and opinions in the report. Make sure that your reflection essay has the following characteristics:
Short and Sweet – Don′t go off on tangents, only include relevant information.
Clear and Concise – Use strong statements.
Maintain the Right Tone – Even though the writing is personal, you need to use a professional and academic tone.
Cite Your Sources – Try to cite authoritative sources and experts to back up your personal opinions.
Proofreading – Not only should you proofread for spelling and grammatical errors, but you should proofread to focus on your organization as well.
In total, the report should contain maximum 2000 words. 600 words to summarize the important aspects of the article (including your reflections, not just a summary), 700 words to discuss the link with one or two media article(s) and 700 words to describe your own reflections as described above. You should also provide the article and a copy of the media article(s).
