PowerPoint Presentation Format –
Your presentation should be a PowerPoint, 5 minutes tops.
Give historical contextual background of the source
Show and discuss your source
– Examples:
If your primary source is a song, embed the audio and play it for the class and/or analyze some of the lyrics, if it’s a picture, show it and point things out about it, if it’s a novel, pick a few quotes or chapters to highlight etc.
Remember this presentation is more about the primary source, not as much about giving a presentation on the time period.
Make it interesting!
To think about the context and compare and contrast section of your presentation, consider the following questions[1]:
What was happening during the time period this source was created?
Who created this source and what was the creator’s purpose in making this primary source?
What does the creator do to get their point across?
What/who was this primary source’s audience, or was it even meant to be seen by the public?
What biases or stereotypes do you see?
What does this source tell you about this time period in history?
How can this source be linked to contemporary political/sociological/cultural dynamics?
***Make sure you include a list of Secondary sources you referenced to inform your research at the end of your presentation.
