PART 1-Advice to a New Student
A good friend of yours or maybe your younger sibling will be starting college process next year and has asked you for advice on how to make it in school. They got through most high school with above average grades but didn’t always work to their potential. They really don’t think that they know how to handle or study for more challenging courses. They are also worried about balancing friends, family, work and school schedule. They hope to go to continue to a 4 year college but is wondering if they can do it. You know that they are intelligent and capable. What advice would you offer this friend?
Directions:
Your task is to offer this person advice on how to be successful in their senior year. You may choose any of the options below to deliver your message to her and will present it to the class.
Criteria:
Consider including points on the following topics: You must include a minimum of 2 topics in your project.
How personal responsibility and self-management skills affect the college process experience?
The role of study skills, such as listening, note-taking, reading, critical thinking, problem solving, and test taking?
Self-examination strategies that can help create a successful and satisfying college experience?

Option 1: Write a letter. Your response should be 2 pages typed (double spaced, times new roman font, size 12) and include the criteria mentioned above.
Option 2: Create a mini handbook that addresses the criteria above. Be sure to include the information above, provide links to other websites, have graphics, and an “about me section.”

A major factor in college retention is whether or not students feel connected to something or someone on campus. Given this “new normal” in education reflect on you and describe your college experience and what have you done since the start of the semester to connect with staff or resources at the college? If little to no engagement reflect on what are the reasons contributing to this. For the remainder of the semester and academic year describe your plan to get more connected with college and your interests.
