OVERVIEW
You will select two publicly traded companies in the United States from the same industry. Do NOT use Home Depot versus Lowes Home Improvement or Walmart versus Target.
Perhaps use CVS versus Walgreens or Petsmart versus Pet Supermarket.
Your task will be to conduct a comprehensive financial analysis, covering a period of the last three fiscal years. You will compare the companies′ financial health and performance based on their financial statements and ratios.
OBJECTIVES
• Understand Financial Statements: Analyze income statements and balance sheets.
• Determine Financial Ratios: Use credible sources to identify key financial ratios to evaluate profitability, liquidity, solvency, and efficiency.
• Common Size Analysis: Conduct a vertical and horizontal analysis.
• Critical Thinking and Interpretation: Develop insights into the companies′ financial strategies, strengths and weaknesses.

DATA COLLECTION
Once you have selected two publicly traded companies from the same industry (i.e. competitors), proceed to data collection.
Obtain the most recent three years of financial statements for each company. For comparability purposes, use a single source for financial statements and ratios.
The two approved sources for financial data, include 10K filings (accessed via the SEC′s EDGAR database) and Morningstar Research database.
Complete the Required Appendices (Attachment A) with the data collected.
The appendices are in the ACC 201 Financial Analysis document attached.
