Overview
A deep dive asks you to more carefully, critically, and analytically apply some of the terms, ideas, and concepts essential to film analysis. We have discussed a lot of terms so far in a kind of general way, and we will be circling back to these terms again and again, clarifying and defining them as we progress. Minimum word count is 500. There is no limit. Push yourself though like you are training for the olympics of film analysis. Exercise your critical and analytical muscles.
Directions
Read through the document below. Look at some of the terms. Go back to the document I made (the “Rabbit Hole” thing I keep refering to) and see some of the terms and explanations there. Chose one aspect of film analysis (remember the chart/image also that is in the Rabbit Hole document) and use it to close read a film we have watched so far. You should look at specific scenes from the film you choose and cite those scenes (1:25:37) so that I know exactly what you are referring to. That’s it. Close reading using a term.
I’m not checking for formal language, editing and grammar, and I’m not looking for you to break new ground in the development of film analysis. I’m just asking you to tell me whatever you think and to employ a term or two in ways that you are working on understanding and using them. That’s it.
I want to know your thoughts and ideas. I am required to report any indication of plagiarism in an form, including the use of AI, to the Honor Council and this will result in a failure for the assignment and possibly the course. I’d rather have you just set a timer, look at term and a scene and just type whatever comes to your head. That’s basically what I’m asking here. No pressure.
