On March 11, 2020, the WHO characterized “COVID-19 as a pandemic.” The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected public health, economics, politics, and society (Gossling ¨ et al., 2020). As of August 2, 2022, there were 575,887,049 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 6,398,412 deaths worldwide (WHO, 2022). In addition, COVID-19 caused immediate and long-term damage to most industries (Yarovaya et al., 2021). It is clear that the tourism and hospitality industry, which plays a critical role in a nation’s or even the global economy and community, is among the most negatively impacted economic sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic (Lin & Falk, 2021).
Excerpts from: Liu, Y., Cheng, X., Liao, S. S., & Yang, F. (2023). The impact of COVID-19 on the tourism and hospitality Industry: Evidence from international stock markets. The North American Journal of Economics and Finance, 64, 101875.
Conduct some research on the above and examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on various sectors within the tourism industry. These will include, but are not limited to, the hospitality sector, transportation, tourism attractions and many more. Your research should also investigate how each of these segments has managed to withstand the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 crisis and identify critical lessons gained to enhance future resilience.
