Nurse Educator Interview Questions
I have identified and arranged to interview Marlene Porter, a nursing educator in the STICU at Baylor Scott & White, with seven years of experience as a nurse educator. The purpose is to learn about the trends in nursing education that she has observed during her career. After researching potential interviewees, I selected Mrs Porter based on her credentials and relevant expertise in academic nursing education. I emailed her to introduce myself as a student working on a course assignment to interview an experienced nurse educator. I explained the purpose, requested a 30-minute time slot, and asked if she preferred to meet in person, by phone, or via web conference. Mrs Porter graciously agreed to a virtual interview on March 25 at 2 pm, and with her permission, I also plan to record the session.
In preparation, I reviewed two literature sources (eCareers, 2023)and (Im et al., 2020) related to current trends and best practices in Mrs. Porter’s field of academic nursing education. This helped me develop the following 12 open-ended interview questions:
What inspired your career path in nursing education?
Could you describe your overall teaching philosophy and goals?
What curricula or evaluation experiences have been most memorable?
How do you evaluate whether students are meeting learning objectives?
What strategies do you find most engaging for students?
What has been your most positive experience as an educator?
What are the biggest challenges you face in this role?
How do you see nursing education evolving over the next decade?
Could you share your credentials, expertise, and typical responsibilities?
Can you walk me through a typical day as a nurse educator?
How has technology impacted teaching methods during your career?
What advice would you give someone interested in nursing education?
