NOTE (Optional assignment replacement): You have the option of participating in TAMU’s Big Event volunteering day (happening on Saturday, March 23’*) and showing me proof of your participation (photos, screenshots, etc.. uploaded to this assignment on Canvas) instead of completing this assignment. If you choose to take the Big Event option, be sure to register by Thursday, February 29th because that is when volunteer sign ups close.
ASSIGNMENT DETAILS: You will conduct an internet search for a current job opportunity as a Volunteer Administrator. Please conduct this search as if you are actually searching for a position that would suit you well. I’d like for you to find a position available in the geographic region in which you believe you will live (or would like to live) upon graduation. Also, search for a position within the specific context that fits your style and strengths, such as: youth education, sports, senior adults, outdoor education, etc… You will describe the opportunity in a Word document, and you will expound on the implications of the opportunity for you personally (how this job would impact/affect you personally).
Searching Tips: Many of the online position postings will be labeled as “Volunteer Coordinator” positions, so be sure to search under that title as well. Try many different word combinations in your search. You might try something like: volunteer coordinator opening + Frisco, TX, or volunteer coordinator jobs + Sugar Land, TX, or something like that.
For each question, I would like for you to answer the question as best you can with the information given on the position description. In the “Critical Thinking Questions” section, I would like for you to elaborate on the implications of the details of your answer. – Another way to think about this is: “What does this mean to me?” and “What does this mean for me?” So let me clarify what I’m looking for, by giving you a specific example where a position calls for you to develop a new volunteer program. How do you, personally, feel about that? Does that requirement play to your strengths, or does it stress you out? Expound on these things. Make your thoughts personal. I want to see you critically think about the implications of these job opportunities and how they would affect you. …This is the type of critical thinking you will all (likely) be doing upon graduation, as you analyze and implement your next career move.
