1. Introduction – (Must include in-text citations)
Write a few paragraphs giving information touching on areas relevant to what you will be doing.
 what is microbiology and its importance to life (one to two paragraphs with at least two in-text citations – primary and or secondary sources)
 some benefits and adverse effects of microbes (one to two paragraphs with in-text citations – include a primary and secondary source)
 some information on basic techniques used to study microbes (secondary sources might be more available)
 describe the purpose or objective of the study. Must be clearly stated; The purpose of this study was to …………
 What is the working hypothesis?
2. Materials and Methods – (Tests performed are Gram staining and MacConkey, Blood Agar streak plate- Picture of the test is attached)
o Describe each test performed giving the function of the test, what is tested for, and the expected observations and results. DO NOT DESCRIBE THE INDIVIDUAL STEPS. ALSO DO NOT LIST MATERIALS. A short paragraph on each test will do.
3. Results – Include all relevant tables and pictures. All tables and pictures must have title and or figure legend and one or more sentences summarizing the results presented. ( Pictures are attached).
4. Discussion/Conclusion –
o Discuss and analyze your results. How did the results lead to the identification of your unknown?
o Which results did you use to identify your unknown?
o What problems did you encounter with explanation?
o Give some background information on the organisms you identified (must also include citation)
