“Justice, Gender, and the Family” by Susan Moller Okin
Students should formulate their own essay question and argumentative thesis for this essay. They must use at
least one primary source (chosen from the assigned readings, but different from the short midterm essay) and at
least two secondary peer-reviewed academic sources that interpret or engage with this primary source (journal
articles and books). Students should follow the Chicago Manual of Style for referencing and use either in-text
author-date bracketing or footnotes, and also include a complete and properly formatted bibliography. The page
number requirements are strict and marks will be deducted for work less than 9 full pages, excluding title page
and bibliography. Work will be evaluated on clarity or thesis statement, critical reflection regarding the research
question, close attention to key concepts, clear writing style, and satisfaction of format requirements. Students’
term paper will be deducted 2% per day after the deadline up to a maximum deduction of 10%. Upload as a
PDF to Moodle. No assignments will be accepted after April 22. Late assignments will be evaluated, but not
commented on in detail.
