Interview someone between the ages of 30-55 about their job. Questions to consider(This is not a checklist, but just some questions you might think about asking. Feel free to replace any of these with questions you like better!):
When did you start working?
How did you choose your job or career path?
Was this a dream job, or is it something that just pays the bills?
What is it about this job/career that you enjoy? What do you dislike about it?
Have you ever received career counseling?
Have you ever thought about changing jobs/careers?
If you could do any job in the world, what would it be?
What advice would they give to someone starting a new job?
Plus any 2-5 additional questions that you have related to their experience with working. Feel free to address questions specific to the job or career path.
Write a 3-6 page essay that includes
Background information of the person you interviewed (1 paragraph) – first name, age, job/career, and any other important background information.
The answers (2-5 pages) to the questions you asked. You can write it in the form of a transcript or in a narrative.
A reflection (1 page minimum) on what you learned.
How did the answers given reflect theories or concepts you learned in the reading? Please use a minimum of 2 concepts or theories discussed in the readings about the development of middle adults to support your arguments. Please highlight or bold the names of the theories or concepts.
Were you surprised by any of the answers they gave?
Did it make you think about them, their job, or your own job/career path differently?
What are one or two things that you want to remember as you move forward in your own job or career path?
