In a 3-5 page double-spaced typed paper (page minimum excludes the reference page), you will review an autobiography written about an experience of mental illness from the perspective of an individual living with a mental disorder or from the perspective of an individual who has a family member who is affected. If you have a book you would like to review that does not appear on this list you can let me know so I can approve it in advance.
The review should include:
(1) Brief summary of the book (no more than a page in length),
(2) Descriiption of the major mental disorder being discussed (inclusive of [a] DSM-IV-TR criteria, [b] prevalence of disorder in general population, [c] what population is most at risk of having this disorder, [d] known causes and risk factors based on ecological framework),
(3) Descriiption of what services or advocacy organizations the author used to help treat or cope with the mental illness (if read an autobiography about family member of a person with a mental disorder, then discuss what services they both used),
(4) In your opinion, what could the author or family member have more effectively manage or cope with the mental disorder? Mention at least two evidence-based prevention, treatment, or management interventions from the literature.
