For this assignment, you will choose an emerging technology or future trend in intelligence (AI, biometrics, quantum computing, etc.) and explore the potential applications of the chosen technology in intelligence operations, considering both opportunities and challenges. The objective of the assignment is to apply ethical theories to real-world challenges the Intelligence Community (IC) may face or is currently facing. Your thesis should ultimately argue for or against the technology based on a careful analysis of its benefits versus costs.
Issues to consider:
Do legal frameworks exist to regulate this technology? If not, do they need to be developed?
What are the ethical implications of the technology? Are there privacy concerns, for example?
Are there societal implications or consequences beyond those affecting the IC?
Recommendations for legal measures and policies that intelligence agencies should follow to ensure they do not abuse the technology.
Grading will be based on the assignment rubric. Make sure you follow AMU’s writing policies and the Chicago writing style guide (cover page, page numbering, double space, headings/subheadings, etc). The use of required texts and readings from this course is mandatory, but you may supplement them with additional academic (credible) sources. YOU MUST CITE YOUR SOURCES AND INCLUDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY. You should use a minimum of 5 scholarly sources for this assignment. DIRECT QUOTING SHOULD BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM (less than 15% of your paper). This is not an opinion piece.
